O meia Gerson e o zagueiro espanhol Pablo Marí, novos reforços do Flamengo, desembarcaram no Rio de Janeiro neste sábado. Os jogadores, que vieram no mesmo voo de Madrid, foram anunciados pelo clube da Gávea nesta semana e, ao passarem rapidamente pelo saguão, receberam o carinho dos torcedores.

Pablo Marí e Gerson não falaram a imprensa. Marco Silva, pai e empresário do meia, atendeu rapidamente os jornalistas e disse que o filho está muito feliz.

– Sem palavras. Emoção muito grande, estamos todos felizes – disse Marcão.

O meia brasileiro assinou contrato com o Flamengo até dezembro de 2023. O Rubro-Negro pagou 11,8 milhões de euros – aproximadamente R$ 49 milhões – à Roma, da Itália, por 100% dos direitos econômicos de Gerson, de 22 anos.

O investimento em Pablo Marí foi de cerca de R$ 5 milhões. O zagueiro espanhol, comprado do Manchester City, da Inglaterra, assinou até dezembro de 2022. Na última temporada, ele defendeu o Deportivo La Coruña (ESP).

O duelo

Com o apoio da torcida, o Internacional resolveu partir para cima desde os primeiros minutos. A prova do abafa colorado veio com duas chances na mesma jogada através de Edenílson e Wellington Silva, que obrigaram Júlio César a salvar.

Melhor na partida, o Inter marcou em jogada de bola parada. Sobis levantou, Paulo Miranda tentou cortar e jogou contra o próprio patrimônio. Nem mesmo a desvantagem fez o Tricolor mudar a sua postura. Sem as principais peças, os comandados de Renato Gaúcho demonstravam dificuldade na criação e foram presas fáceis para os contra-ataques do rival.

Na etapa final, o ritmo do confronto caiu de maneira surpreendente. Sem reação, o Grêmio continuava estéril dentro de campo e não assustava o Inter, que administrava o jogo tranquilamente. Na casa dos 25 minutos, em raro momento de lucidez, o Tricolor conseguiu trabalhar a posse de bola e Tardelli deu passe açucarado para Juninho Capixaba. O lateral levantou na medida para Luan ganhar de Klaus e mandar para o fundo da rede: 1 a 1.

From being deemed “unselectable” in Australia and then sent home early, Cook expressed his delight that Finn was “getting back to his best” and, on a pitch that is expected to offer more pace and bounce than any other in the series, his extra height could prove an asset that England cannot ignore.
“It’s great to have him back,” Cook said. “From when I last saw him in an England shirt, on that one-day tour, to what he’s now delivering for Middlesex and when he briefly bowled during training at Lord’s and here these last two days as well, it’s just great for English cricket that Finny is getting back to his best.
“To add him into the pile of fast bowlers can only be a good thing. He’s very different to what we have got: he’s a tall bowler who, when he gets it right, bowls at nearly 90mph.
“I am pleased for him that he’s managed to get back. Obviously it’s been a very tough six months for him personally. But he’s fought through it and I’ll think he’ll be a stronger bloke for it. It bodes well for his cricket.
“The pitch is quite hard, so he throws his name into selection. But we played well last week and every member of that side deserves to play as well. It’s a tough call. You always try to pick the best team but you try to balance that with the continuity effect. The guys in that team don’t want to keep looking over their shoulder. Successful sides are built on a bit more stability.”

“I’ve been round for dinner with Jimmy and he doesn’t use that language with mum and dad,” Cook said. “It’s the same as a rugby player. You need to get yourself in the right frame of mind. I’m not sure every rugby player walks down the street wanting to tackle every person he sees. But you have to get yourself in that right mental state for you personally to perform. That’s when it’s important and that’s why he has that slightly split personality.”The difference is that while tackling is a necessity in rugby, swearing is certainly not in cricket. But while Cook admits there may have been moments when Anderson has “overstepped the mark,” he is reluctant to ask his key bowler to alter a method that has, on the whole, worked well for him.”Of course there may have been little bits where he might have overstepped the mark throughout his career,” Cook admitted. “But you’d rather be on that line than too passive. He needs that for his bowling and the way he bowled, especially at Southampton, was incredible.”He is the best English bowler I have seen by quite considerable margins. He’s not blessed with absolutely express pace, so to be able to control that ball and find a method like he did in Australia in 2010, where it didn’t swing that much, is outstanding.”I’ve probably not played with someone who changes so much when they get on to the pitch. But Jimmy is an experienced cricketer and he has found a method that he needs and he has become England’s second leading wicket-taker in Test cricket. I’m pretty sure he’ll be England’s leading wicket-taker very soon and that’s an outstanding achievement. He’s found his way of doing it.”Yes, he has a very different personality when he crosses the line. And I don’t think anyone should moan about it because what happens on the field should stay on the field and off the field you should be a nice guy.”Of course, you understand the parameters you have to play within, but I think the way both sides have played this series has been fantastic, apart from that one incident which has been blown up. I thought both sides have been very competitive and played it in the right way and in the right spirit.”

Veteran spinner Brad Hogg has signed on for another season with the Perth Scorchers, who have also secured Pakistan fast bowler Yasir Arafat for another year.Hogg, 43, has just returned home from the Caribbean Premier League, where he played for the Antigua Hawksbills, and he was also part of Australia’s World T20 squad in Bangladesh earlier in the year.”The body is feeling great and the mind is just the same as ever; it’s feeling like an 18-year-old’s,” Hogg said. “I’m really looking forward to getting back out in the middle and playing. I know my career is coming to an end; it’s going to come to an end quicker than it will extend, we all know that. I just want to enjoy every moment and I’m just excited.”Like Hogg, Arafat was a key part of the side’s BBL triumph last summer with his 12 wickets at 14.75, and Scorchers coach Justin Langer said both men were important signings for the 2014-15 campaign.”I’ve said from day one that, the way I’m watching the game, is that, in Twenty20 cricket, that experience is so important,” Langer said. “To be able to handle the pressure, whether you’re batting, bowling, fielding, usually it’s the more experienced heads that do that. A decision over whether to convene or delay the BCCI’s annual general meeting (AGM) is likely to be taken at an informal meeting of BCCI members in Chennai on Sunday. Around 20 of the 30 members are expected to attend as a show of support for the sidelined BCCI president N Srinivasan.According to one official, “technically” the AGM already stood postponed. “There is a technical glitch as per the BCCI memorandum. The president has to sign the balance sheet. The president has to ask to postpone the AGM. But there is no president,” the BCCI official said.Doubts over the AGM, usually held in the last week of September, emerged immediately after a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court rejected Srinivasan’s appeal to be reinstated as BCCI president, which would have allowed him to chair the AGM and likely stand for a third term as BCCI president.The Court approved a two-month extension to the Mudgal Committee’s probe into corruption during last year’s IPL and said Srinivasan could not be reinstated in keeping with an order from the court which had said that he could resume office only at the end of the IPL investigation.ESPNcricinfo understands that around 20 associations, those said to be on Srinivasan’s side, are expected to attend the Chennai meeting. It is understood that the units from south and east zone will attend the meeting, as well as the BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel.The staging of the meeting is being kept a secret. Several state association members who are not Srinivasan supporters, including one of the BCCI vice-presidents, said they were not even aware of such a meeting, let alone being invited.According to a BCCI office-bearer, the Chennai meeting was not a formal board meeting, but the gathering of “a group” of people to discuss issues pertaining to the AGM. There is growing uncertainty amid member units over whether the AGM and elections could be held before September 30, the last day of BCCI’s financial calendar.The court’s order to not allow Srinivasan to resume his duties has resulted in a technical conundrum over BCCI’s AGM. According to the BCCI constitution, the AGM has to be convened with a 21-day notice before September 30 which means the last date to convene the AGM should be September 8.As per the norm, the BCCI calls for a working committee meeting to finalise the date for the AGM in addition to ratifying the annual report and the accounts, which can only be done by the president. With Srinivasan barred from the post, Shivlal Yadav has taken over as the interim president.There is no clarity over whether Yadav is eligible to ratify the annual report. While a section of BCCI members believe Yadav can sign the report, some members feel in the presence of an elected president, Yadav’s signature may create a legal loophole that can be exploited by an aggrieved member later on. There is a possibility that the ruling faction within the BCCI may well prefer to postpone the AGM citing incomplete annual accounts.The annual report is also far from being ready, according to another high-ranking BCCI official. The annual accounts have to be finalised by the finance committee and forwarded to the working committee for its approval. However, the BCCI’s working committee hasn’t been convened since April 20, four days after the Court confirmed that Srinivasan couldn’t return to the BCCI till the end of the IPL investigation.Multiple former office-bearers confirmed that a working committee meeting can still be held during the three-week window between circulation of the AGM notice and the AGM. And this might be feasible for the Srinivasan camp, considering opposition, if any, has so far been muted.Some of Srinivasan’s key opponents, including Lalit Modi (Rajasthan Cricket Association), Jyotiraditya Scindia (Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association), Niranjan Shah (Saurashtra Cricket Association), Ajay Shirke (Maharashtra Cricket Association) and even Sharad Pawar (Mumbai Cricket Association) have remained silent. One of the opposition members said “the status quo” would continue when asked if there was any plan to stall Srinivasan and his supporters from trying to postpone the AGM.
