She was tested later that month in Perth and suspended from bowling after results proved that her action was illegal because all her deliveries exceeded the 15-degree level of tolerance by an average of two degrees.Pradhan’s action will continue to be scrutinised by match officials to ensure it remains legal, the ICC said.

Children have a certain look on their faces when they’ve been thoroughly scolded. It’s a hangdog expression that is a mixture of embarrassment and anger. Brendon McCullum wore it when he walked into the end of day press conference.It turned out that McCullum had a reason to look so sheepish. He and the rest of the New Zealand side had been given a stern talking to from John Wright. So much so, that McCullum didn’t seem to have recovered enough to articulate it very well. “Quite rightly he [Wright] was very upset and he wasn’t backward in coming forward on that, which was fair enough.”Whatever direction Wright was in, it was a better one than his batting line-up and he let them know it. “He said that we made some dumb mistakes and we continue to make dumb mistakes and that’s going to put us under pressure against a good team,” McCullum said. “If we’re not going to learn from those mistakes then we’re going to continue to have days like this. He was pretty straight up with that message.”New Zealand had themselves to blame for three of the first four wickets to fall – the last two at the top end of the eventual collapse. While Rob Nicol was the victim of a fairly good ball that lifted on him, Martin Guptill hung his bat out to a delivery he should have left, Brendon McCullum took the bait and pulled one straight to the square leg fielder who had been placed there just for him. And Ross Taylor played at a ball he could have left.McCullum and Taylor’s dismissals’ were particularly disappointing because they had steered New Zealand to a position which made South Africa’s decision to bowl first seem questionable. “We made two very dumb errors from our two senior batsmen and that put the rest of our line-up under pressure,” McCullum said. “If you give South Africa a sniff then they go up a gear and that’s what they did. It was pretty frustrating.”Even for an attack that is considered the among world’s best, five wickets without conceding a run is a dreamlike effort and McCullum admitted it was a nighmare for New Zealand to witness. He avoided the real-time show but could not escape its consequences. “I saw the first couple [of wickets] after I got out and tried to take a shower to hope that things would work out okay,” McCullum said. “We frittered away a great opportunity to make big runs against a very good team and I’m devastated by that. You can’t walk away from that, you have to own up and make sure you do it better next time.”Accountability is something that McCullum understands. He has scored four half-centuries in the tour against South Africa so far but has failed to converted even one into a three-figure score. “Fifties and sixties aren’t going to get the required runs for us so I have to be able to turn those starts into big scores,” he said. “It’s frustrating but I have to make sure I stand tall and continue to try to lead the batting line-up.”Part of that leadership is balancing aggression with defense, something New Zealand’s batsmen are struggling to do on fairly tame surfaces. Although the Hamilton strip was tinged with green, it was by no means a pitch worthy of a score of under 200 in the first innings. “For a new batter it is testing but if you get the pace of it and get yourself in you can occupy the crease without too many demons,” McCullum said.That bodes for a tough day ahead for New Zealand as South Africa will look to make the most of the best batting conditions on the second and third days. Chris Martin picked up two wickets but there is still a massive amount of toil ahead. “We’re still incredibly disappointed with our day but to take two wickets at the end, albeit a night watchman, gives us a little bit more leeway into their middle order,” McCullum said. “Tomorrow morning is going to be huge, we’ve got to try and attack early on and knock over a couple of early, and if we can’t do that then hold the run rate then if we can get a breakthrough go hard again to try and take wickets in clumps.”Edited by Tariq Engineer

تُجرى الآن وقائع قرعة البطولة العربية للأندية 2023 “كأس الملك سلمان”، والتي أقيمت في العاصمة السعودية الرياض.

وكان الاتحاد العربي لكرة القدم قد أعلن قبل ساعات عن الفرق المشاركة في البطولة العربية هذا الموسم، إذ يمثل مصر ناديي الزمالك وطلائع الجيش.

ويشارك فريق نادي الزمالك من دور المجموعات، فيما يخوض طلائع الجيش المنافسات من الدور التمهيدي الأول.

Danish Kaneria, the Pakistan legspinner, has decided to contest the charge brought about by the ECB against him for breaching its anti-corruption directives. The ECB had decided last week to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Kaneria and his former Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield, who was jailed for four months in January after he admitted to underperforming in a Pro40 match against Durham in September 2009.Kaneria has hired three law firms to present his case: Time Solicitors and Stephen Hourigan in the UK, and Dr. Farogh Naseem in Pakistan.Kaneria was questioned by the Essex police in March last year in relation to the incident but was released on grounds of insufficient evidence. Kaneria hasn’t been cleared by the PCB to play for Pakistan, but has been playing domestic cricket. He is currently Pakistan’s leading Test spin bowler, with 261 wickets in 61 Tests.An ECB disciplinary panel, chaired by Gerard Elias QC, is expected to sit in the first week of May to consider the charge. Kaneria’s legal team has, however, sought a delay in the hearing and time until at least May 10 to reply to a 400-page evidence bundle that is yet to be received by the lawyers in Pakistan. Kaneria will also need time to apply for a UK visa.”It seems that even if we expedite the matter at a very fast pace, the bundle of 400 pages available at the Time Solicitors London office is likely to be couriered to us on Tuesday,” Naseem wrote to the ECB in a letter, a copy of which is with ESPNcricinfo. “Also considering that Kaneria’s defence and supporting evidence will have to be jointly finalised by lawyers from two jurisdictions i.e UK and Pakistan, it seems that it will not be possible to furnish the same by 20-4-2012.”It is thus most humbly requested that the time to supply Kaneria’s defense and supporting evidence may be extended up to May 10, whereafter the disciplinary hearing may be scheduled.”Westfield is expected to be released from jail this month.

اندلعت اشتباكات قوية بين مشجعي نابولي وآينتراخت فرانكفورت قبل مباراة الفريقين في دوري أبطال أوروبا مساء اليوم الأربعاء.

وبحسب “سكاي إيطاليا” شوهد ألتراس فرانكفورت يشعلون النيران في سيارة شرطة وسيارات أخرى، وتم تحطيم نوافذ سيارات والدراجات النارية الخاصة بالمارة، بالإضافة لبعض المحلات، وسط محاولات من شرطة مكافحة الشغب لتهدئة الوضع.

كانت الشرطة في نابولي في حالة تأهب قصوى مع وصول حوالي 600 مشجع من ألمانيا على الرغم من منع وزارة الداخلية الإيطالية جميع المشجعين من ألمانيا من الحضور بسبب العنف الذي شهدته مباراة الذهاب في فرانكفورت عندما تم اعتقال تسعة أشخاص.

تم إلغاء الحظر بعد استئناف من فرانكفورت، لكن مدينة نابولي حظرت يوم الأحد جميع سكان مدينة فرانكفورت.

يذكر أن نابولي في مباراة الذهاب فاز 2-0 على فرانكفورت وتلعب مباراة الإياب مساء اليوم الأربعاء في تمام العاشرة مساءً بتوقيت القاهرة.

Sachin Tendulkar has said that his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, India’s upper house of Parliament, was due to his contribution to sport and no other reason, and affirmed that he would not be trading cricket for politics. His comments, at a function in Pune, came amid a public debate over his nomination.”I have played cricket for 22 and a half years and I understand that I was nominated because of this reason. I am not a politician,” Tendulkar said. “There are many responsibilities on me. I would definitely like to contribute in the field of sports because that is my expertise.”Tendulkar, 39, said he hoped to silence critics who questioned how he could balance his sporting commitments with his duties as an MP. “When you get nominated because of your contribution in your field, it’s an honour. I was excited to be nominated. I am a sportsman and will always remain one,” Tendulkar said.He met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on April 26 and was offered one of the 12 seats in the nominated category. He accepted the offer of a nomination, which was then formally approved by the Indian President. “I am not going to enter politics giving up cricket, which is my life. I will continue to play cricket,” Tendulkar said.He is the first sportsman to be nominated in this category, which has no election process.
