Eu tinha filhos no colégio, família adaptada…

Talha demolishes Pakistan Customs

A round-up of the first day’s play in the fifth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

Cricinfo staff20-Jan-2009Group ANational Bank of Pakistan (NBP) took pole position against Pakistan Customs at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex in Karachi. Mohammad Talha’s 5 for 44 provided little joy for the visitors after captain Bilal Shafayat chose to bat. Misbah’s right-arm offbreaks proved too much for HBL as they were bowled out for 176, with Ahmed Shehzad top scoring with 50. During their reply, Asad led from the front with 58 from 105 balls, including eight fours, while Murtaza kept him company with a 83-ball 35. Abid Ali and Muntazir Mehdi put on 34 for the opening wicket after being put in by the visitors. But four wickets fell with the score on 76 – severe blows dealt by Rahat Ali and Samiullah Khan. Captain Zulqarnain Haidar and Mohammad Saeed did well to buoy the innings and took Lahore safely to stumps. Rahat picked up 3 for 24, while Samiullah and Imran Ali picked up two wickets each.Imran Abbas’ patient 82, off 217 balls, helped Sui Southern Gas Corporation shake off the disappointment of their heavy loss to HBL in the previous match, as they reached 206 for 6, on the opening day of their match against Group A toppers Pakistan International Airlines at Quaid-e-Azam Park. Tahir Khan ended as the most successful bowler for Pakistan International Airlines with two wickets, while Fahad Iqbal starred in the field, playing a part in both run-outs of the innings.Azhar Attari and Junaid Nadir were the wreckers-in-chief as they helped Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) shoot out Water and Power Development Authority for 199 at the Sheikhupura Stadium. In reply, ZTBL finished on 37 for 1, with Afaq Raheem and Umar Javed at the crease. Having been put in by ZTBL, the Water and Power Development Authority openers put on a 53-run opening stand, but a collapse ensued at the end, as none of the batsmen even managed to cross 40.Group BUsman Tariq’s 65 was the highlight of Multan’s first innings against Faisalabad at Okara. In the 54 overs on the first day, Multan were 153 for 4, with Usman and Naved Yasin at the crease. Usman, whose 135-ball effort included eleven boundaries, was involved in two key partnerships – 49 with Gulraiz Sadaf for the second wicket, and 50 with Rameez Alam for the third. Zahoor Khan was the most successful bowler for Faisalabad picking up 3 for 62.Rashid Mansoor put Abbottabad in the driver’s seat in their match against Karachi Blues at the United Bank Limited Sports Complex. Abbottabad captain Adnan Raees’ decision to field first paid off as Rashid tore through the Karachi batting line-up. The right-arm fast bowler ended with 6 for 76, as only Ashfaq Afridi (38) and Daniyal Ahsan (33) offered some resistance. However, the hosts responded strongly to reduce Abbottabad to 13 for 3, before a 92-run partnership between Fawad Khan (62) and Adnan (40) propped them up. Riaz Kail and Rashid Mansoor then guided them safely to 146 for 5 at stumps.Quetta made a cautious start after opting to bat, on the opening day of their fixture against Lahore Ravi at Muridke. Ata-ur-Rehman missed out on a half century but Mohammad Aslam, who remained unbeaten on 48, took Quetta to 181 for 4 at stumps, after 66 overs were played in the day. Gregg Evans drops Aston Villa claim about Bogarde

The Athletic’s Gregg Evans has dropped some exciting transfer insight into Aston Villa starlet Lamare Bogarde.

What’s the story?

Writing on Twitter, the journalist claimed: “#AVFC were in a rush to sign Lamare Bogarde before Brexit. #THFC #AFC #MCFC and #MUFC were all keen but Villa’s ‘project’ was too exciting to turn down. One year on and the 17-year-old is flying.”

And, in a follow-up article for The Athletic, Evans added: “Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have both taken the hard-working teenager under their wing. They immediately warmed to the bright, polite youngster and recognise his potential.

“The youngster is calm and composed in possession and likes to play out from the back. That he’s a regular for the under-23s and was given the captain’s armband last time out also says a lot about his transformation at Villa over the past two years. Still so young but gradually developing into the player Villa hoped they were getting when they went above and beyond to convince him that claret and blue was the future, Bogarde is maturing quicker than expected.”

Villa fans will be buzzing

The 17-year-old joined from Dutch giants Feyernoord, and has been spending time with both the U23s and U18s in his time at the club.

Speaking after his arrival, academy manager Mark Harrison, raved: “We are delighted to welcome Lamare to the club. He is a player with immense potential and the commitment that will go in to fulfilling that starts now.”

A holding midfielder by trade, but also capable of playing a little further forward and even further back as a central defender, the young Dutchman’s versatility speaks volumes about his tactical intelligence.

And when you look at his record for Feyernoord’s youth sides, you see someone who despite being a holding midfielder, can also be a threat going forward, notching two goals and providing four assists in 19 games for the U17s.

The fact that Evans has claimed that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, among others, were all interested in signing him, speaks volumes of the kind of esteem that some of the Premier League’s heavyweights held him in.

Despite that interest, Bogarde made the switch to Villa Park, and as Evans says, found the Midlands club’s project just too exciting to turn down – exactly the kind of statement and ambition that will have fans buzzing about the future.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have another exciting academy starlet in this teenager…

Muttiah Muralitharan, with 500 ODI victims, starts the first game against India in Dambulla needing three wickets to overtake Wasim Akram and become the highest wicket-taker. Murali, 36, also holds the Test record with 769 wickets from 125 matches.”We will be very happy once he [Muralitharan] gets the record. It is another milestone for him and another one for Sri Lankan cricket,” Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene said. He said Murali’s secret of success is “pure hard work, commitment, the willingness to win matches and to compete against the best in the world.”India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was equally appreciative. “I’ve seen his career graph and he has been very consistent. He is a champion bowler,” Dhoni said. “As far as this series is concerned we know that he will reach that mark. We will play as we played him in the last series.”Jayawardene praised Murali’s resilience in getting close to Akram’s record, set in 2003.”It is difficult for me to put it in words. Everyone knows the amount of hard work he has put in over the last 16 years. He has gone through a lot of hardship. Probably in a few games or even tomorrow he might hold both the records in Tests and one-dayers. That’s an amazing effort for someone who started out as a fast bowler and then turned into an offspinner.”

Flower more open to permanent role

Andy Flower has said he will consider applying for the England head coach role when it is officially advertised in the next few days

Andy Flower has said he will consider applying for the England head coach role when it is officially advertised in the next few days. He is currently in an interim position after the sudden departure of Peter Moores in January, but despite difficulties for the team on the tour of West Indies it has given him the hunger to try for the top job.”I have really enjoyed doing it so far,” Flower said. “I am sure there are many experienced, fine coaches out there but I haven’t quite made my decision yet.”Shortly before departing on the tour Flower said he would see how the trip developed before deciding whether to aim for the full-time position, which could become a team director position instead of the old-style coach. If he helped England turn around the 1-0 deficit and claim the series over the next two Tests that would strengthen his credentials, although he faces tough competition with the ECB likely to want leading world figures to apply. In the aftermath of Moores’ departure, the current Kent director of cricket Graham Ford became one of the frontrunners, but Flower said he has plenty to offer.”[There’s] my experience as a Test cricketer and the fact that I’ve been involved with these guys for almost two years. I know the personnel involved and I believe I can help gel a unit together,” hesaid. One key factor that may count against him, however, is his closeness to Moores. When Kevin Pietersen made his demands for the team structure, which ultimately cost him the captaincy, Flower was also on the list of people he wanted out. “Peter Moores is a good friend of mine and I really enjoyed working with him,” Flower said. “If I am too closely associated with him that is for someone else to decide.”Flower’s first priority though is to ensure England don’t dwell on the disappointment of the near-miss in Antigua when West Indies saved the Test with nine wickets down. “It was very disappointing,” he said. “We dominated the whole Test and didn’t win in the end, so it did feel abit like a loss.”He supported Andrew Strauss’s tactics in batting on to leave a target of 503 although England’s continued struggle to take 20 wickets remains a concern. Since the back-to-back series against New Zealand last year England have only bowled a side out twice on one occasion – against South Africa at The Oval.”Declaration-wise it allowed the captain to set attacking fields throughout the day and I suppose the proof is in the pudding,” Flower said. “We didn’t get 10 wickets, we only got nine of them. There have been a few cases, so we have to examine why. Are we doing the right things with reverse swing? Are we bowling reverse swing in the right way? Are our spinners having the right effect in the last innings? Questions have to be asked.”England have a two-day game starting on Sunday to give their squad players and outing and the match may include Ravi Bopara and Amjad Khan, who have been called in as cover for Andrew Flintoff. They are only due to arrive from the Lions tour of New Zealand shortly before the game, but England will want to assess their options.
