Celtic have signed a significant number of players since Ange Postecoglou became the new manager of the Hoops.

The Bhoys have added no fewer than nine players to their senior ranks this summer, but that could grow even larger before the deadline closes.

What’s the word?

Celtic have been in talks to sign Giorgos Giakoumakis and Jota in the last few days but their business might not stop there.

It’s thought that Jota is undergoing a medical on Monday with a view to signing on loan but a more permanent fixture could head through the door.

According to The Sunday Mirror; 29/08 (via Glasgow Live), Celtic are one of many clubs interested in signing Watford striker Troy Deeney.

Separate reports from The Athletic claimed that Birmingham City have already begun negotiations to lure him away from the Hornets.

Shades of Hartson

The idea of signing Deeney is likely to be met with scepticism by Celtic supporters.

After all, Postecoglou has preferred signing young players with plenty of potential to succeed in the future. At the age of 33, the English forward is heading towards the end of his career.

He would also take up a pretty hefty space on the wage bill as he currently earns around the £65k-per-week mark at Vicarage Road.

That being said, his powerful attributes and goalscoring traits could actually be useful for the Hoops.

Described as a “handful” by Arsenal legend Ian Wright, he has amassed 140 goals in Watford colours, seven of which came last season in 19 Championship outings.

However, it’s not the scoring of goals for which Deeney is famed, but rather his powerful and bullish approach on the field of play.

The veteran attacker is one of the strongest players in the game and has won a hefty number of aerial duels. Last term, he was successful in 3.6 aerial battles per match; a tally which was down on his career average of 5.1.

With his immense physical traits in mind, he could evoke memories of a certain John Hartson at Parkhead. The footballer turned pundit was a lumbering striker who put himself about and bullied defenders much in the same way Deeney has throughout his career.

He scared opponents merely with his size and was a throwback to the old-fashioned striker. Speaking about his career, the Welshman once said: “I was never a great, great player. I was just somebody who gave his heart and soul into every performance.”

Coincidentally, that typifies Deeney in a nutshell as well. His work ethic and attitude has to be admired.

Shane Watson, the Australian allrounder, has been fined 10% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during an incident involving Indian opener Gautam Gambhir on the first day of the second Test in Delhi. Gambhir’s hearing has been adjourned until Friday morning so that match referee Chris Broad can review the evidence.Gambhir had a series of verbal clashes with Watson during the post-lunch session and then ran into him when trying for a second run in the 51st over of the Indian innings. Gambhir later said elbowing Watson in the chest ” wasn’t deliberate ” but he was charged with a Level 2 offence for not conducting play “within the spirit of the game as well as within the laws of cricket”. Watson was slapped with a Level 1 charge under the same offence.Watson pleaded not guilty to the offence during his hearing but Broad found him “guilty of verbally engaging with Gambhir in a manner that was not in keeping with the spirit of cricket”. There is no right of appeal for Level 1 offences and the match referee’s decision is final.Gambhir, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and he could face a ban of one Test. Level 2 penalties range from a fine of between 50 and 100% of match fees and/or a ban of one Test or two ODIs but the player has the right to appeal against the decision within 24 hours.The umpires Billy Bowden and Aleem Dar laid the charges against Gambhir and Watson along with the TV official Suresh Shastri. However, they did not lay charges against Gambhir and Simon Katich after the two were involved in a heated argument after tea on the first day. Katich appeared to have halted Gambhir from taking a run – and the pair was separated by Bowden.Gambhir was fined 65% of his match fee for an incident in 2007 when he barged in to Pakistan bowler Shahid Afridi while batting in a one-day match in Kanpur. That’s according to a claim made by Fabrizio Romano, with the journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that the 25-year-old looks on course to join Serie A side Napoli, with a deal expected to be announced in the coming hours.

Silva will be gutted

With Marco Silva having publically stated his desire to retain the services of Anguissa beyond the closure of the summer transfer window on Tuesday, the fact that the club look to have sanctioned the 25-year-old’s departure is sure to have left the Cottagers manager gutted.

It is clear to see why the 44-year-old had hoped to keep the midfielder in west London this season, as the £22.5m-rated man demonstrated his importance within the Fulham side in the club’s Premier League campaign last term.

Indeed, over his 36 Premier League appearances last season, Angussia made an average of 1.6 interceptions, 2.2 tackles, 0.4 clearances and won a whopping 7.3 duels per game.

The £70k-per-week midfielder also impressed in a creative capacity, providing three assists and creating four big chances for his teammates, along with making an average of 0.8 key passes per league fixture.

These metrics saw the Cameroonian earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.91, ranking him as the Cottagers’ 10th-best performer in the top flight of English football.

Angussia has continued this fine form into the club’s Championship campaign this time out, averaging a SofaScore match rating of 6.87 over his three substitute appearances for Silva’s side this season.

As such, the departure of the midfielder is sure to come as a blow to the Portuguese manager, who will now undoubtedly be frantically searching for a replacement for the 25-year-old over what remains of the summer transfer window.

Chandana restricted the target to 140 and Marshall led the Royal Bengal Tigers home with an assured innings. Imran Farhat and Shahid Yousuf were the only two to cross 20 as Lahore collapsed to the accuracy of Chandana.It was an intelligent spell of leg spin from Chandana. He not only varied his pace, length and trajectory but also the degree of turn. He was introduced in the 10th over with the score on 50 for 1 and struck immediately, luring Tahir Mughal into giving a return catch off a flighted delivery. It was interesting to see how he changed his style according to the stature of the batsman. He initially pushed the ball through and kept it full to Inzamam-ul-Haq who swept him couple of times. Suddenly, he dropped one short but got it to hurry through straight and Inzamam could only nick the attempted cut shot. Cut to the 16th over: sensing Imran Farhat might try to jump out, he dragged back the length and pushed it slightly wider outside off to leave his man stranded outside the crease. Andre Adams and Eklak Ahmid, who bowled his quota at a stretch, proved difficult to put away in the middle overs. Adams mixed length deliveries with change of pace and Eklak repeatedly hit the deck hard. Only Lance Klusener, who bowled full. without much seam movement, went for some runs. Adams too was hit for two sixes in the last over of the innings when Shahid Yousuf connected with two swipes. But it was a little too late.

وينتهي عقد رونالدو مع مانشستر يونايتد في 30 يونيو 2023، ولكن البرتغالي لن يشارك في بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا لعدم تأهل الفريق الإنجليزي لها وهي المرة الأولى منذ عام 2003.

وحرص فيريرا خلال اجتماعه باللاعبين على مطالبة كل واحد منهم بتنفيذ المهام المطلوبة منه بشكل متقن، وبذل أقصى ما في وسعهم خلال تأدية الفقرات البدنية والفنية، لحجز مكان في التشكيل الأساسي للفريق خلال الفترة المقبلة.

وكلف فيريرا معاونيه بأمور فنية وبدنية خاصة سيقومون بمتابعتها مع اللاعبين وتقديم تقرير مفصل عنها.

وبدأ محمد عبد الشافي الظهير الأيسر للفريق مرحلة جديدة من البرنامج التأهيلي المخصص له من الجهاز الطبي بقيادة الدكتور محمد أسامة، بسبب الإصابة التي يعاني منها.

وأدى عبد الشافي فقرة تأهيلية داخل ملعب النادي، بالجري الخفيف حول الملعب، أعقبها بمجموعة متنوعة من تدريبات التأهيل على موضع إصابته؛ وذلك تحت إشراف عمرو المطراوي اخصائي التأهيل بالفريق.

ويعاني عبدالشافي من إصابة عبارة عن كدمة في الركبة غاب بسببها عن المشاركة مع الفريق خلال الفترة الماضية.

وفي سياق متصل، خاض لاعبو الزمالك فقرة بدنية وتأهيلية لمدة 25 دقيقة تحت قيادة أندريه فيليب سوزا مخطط الأحمال، مقسمة لجزئين، أولهما عبارة عن تأدية بعض تمرينات الإطالات والتدريبات الخاصة بتقوية العضلات، أما الثاني فكان تأهيل بالكرة من خلال التمرير بين اللاعبين في مربعات صغيرة وذلك لزيادة المرونة.

واكتفى الجهاز الفني للفريق بقيادة البرتغالي جوسفالدو فيريرا بأداء اللاعبين هذه المدة فقط وذلك وفقا للبرنامج البدني الموضوع والذي ينفذ بشكل خاص، لتجهيز اللاعبين بالشكل المطلوب قبل مواجهة المقاولون العرب المقبلة في مسابقة الدوري الممتاز.

­­­وخصص جوسفالدو فيريرا، فقرة خططية خاصة للاعبين لتنفيذ جملًا خططية خاصة، وأبرزها التمرير السريع ونقل الكرة في الجزء الأمامي بالملعب؛ ثم التسديد على المرمى.

وحظى جميع اللاعبين بإشادة الجهاز الفني بسبب تنفيذهم الدقيق للجمل الخططية المتفق عليها معهم.

وأنهى الزمالك مرانه بتقسيمة فنية قوية شهدت ندية وحماس قوي وتألق خلالها أكثر من لاعب، في مقدمتهم محمود عبد الرازق شيكابالا قائد الفريق، والذي نال إشادة زملائه والجهاز الفني.

ولفت كل من يوسف أسامة نبيه وحازم إمام ومحمد عبد الغني ومحمود حمدي الونش ومحمد طارق الأنظار إليهم أيضًا بسبب تألقهم في التقسيمة، كما ظهر زميلهم يوسف أوباما صانع ألعاب الفريق بشكل فني قوي في ظل مشاركته لليوم الثاني على التوالي في التدريبات الجماعية، بعد تعافيه من إصابة العضلة الأمامية.

David Moyes’ side left their business until the final few days of the transfer window this summer after securing Europa League football last season.

Craig Dawson made his loan move permanent and Alphonse Areola joined from Paris Saint-Germain on loan, before Kurt Zouma and Nikola Vlasic both signed from Chelsea and CSKA Moscow respectively.

Spartak Moscow midfielder Alex Kral then joined his fellow international teammates Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek in London, on a season-long loan from Spartak Moscow.

After a busy summer, the Hammers are turning their attention to keeping their current stars, with this latest report claiming Soucek and Coufal are set to sign new deals.

The Latest: New Deals set to be handed out

In the report from insiders Claret & Hugh, which details the bumper new deals set for the Czech pair, the final line may come of particular interest to Irons fans, suggesting that Rice is ‘another’ player who could have a new deal in the pipeline.

The report reads: “Declan Rice is another who could be handed fresh terms – as soon as he is willing to put to paper, there will be a deal waiting for him!”

After making his 24th appearance for England and scoring his first goal for the Three Lions, BBC pundit Chris Sutton has hailed the midfielder as ‘an outstanding talent’, whilst Gary Lineker also congratulated Rice on his Twitter.

The Verdict: Needs to happen

Rice has been instrumental for Moyes’ side since the former Manchester United boss arrived at the London Stadium.

Alongside Soucek in the middle, Rice has boasted 1.7 tackles and 2.3 interceptions per game this season, playing every minute of the Premier League campaign so far.

He has now deservedly cemented himself in Gareth Southgate’s squad and has been linked with a move to his boyhood club Chelsea – the Champions League winners’ interest shows exactly how well the Hammers star is performing.

Keeping Rice at the club is vital for everyone involved if West Ham are to continue their push into the top six.
