West Ham United could capitalise on a ‘stalemate’ between Inter Milan and Cagliari to sign midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to La Repubblica (via Sport Witness). 

The lowdown

The Uruguay international made 32 league appearances for Cagliari last season, averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.2 dribbles and one key pass per game (via WhoScored). His performances earned him a call-up to his country’s squad for the Copa America this summer.

Serie A expert Mina Rzouki has raved about Nandez, labelling him ‘unstoppable’ and claiming that he’s ‘one of the most underrated players’ in the Italian top flight. The 25-year-old, formerly of Boca Juniors, is valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt.

The report from La Repubblica (via Sport Witness) claimed that Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has made Nandez a primary target, but the reigning Serie A champions have seen an offer rejected by Cagliari.

The player is ‘certain’ to leave the Sardinian club this summer, either in a permanent deal or on loan with an obligation to buy.

He is said to relish the idea of joining Inter but negotiations between the two clubs appear to have stalled. The Nerazzurri are under pressure to make a breakthrough, with West Ham waiting in the wings if the impasse between the Serie A duo isn’t resolved.

The verdict

Nandez appears to be an excellent all-round midfielder judging by his performance figures and the praise which has come his way, but West Ham’s priorities should lie elsewhere in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Above all, they need to sign a starting centre-back to ensure that their defence doesn’t prove to be their undoing. The goals they conceded in Sunday’s 4-2 win at Newcastle made this abundantly clear.

After that, the focus should be on recruiting some cover and competition for Michail Antonio at centre-forward. A clear gap exists in that area of the squad, where there is no natural alternative to the injury-prone 31-year-old.

ومن المفترض أن يعود بوجبا إلى يوفنتوس في الأسابيع القليلة المقبلة، كما تؤكد الصحافة الإيطالية والبريطانية لتكون فترته الثانية في السيدة العجوز.

الجدير بالذكر أن بوجبا كان قد عاد إلى مانشستر يونايتد من يوفنتوس في عام 2016 بمقابل 105 ملايين يورو، لكنه لم يحقق توقعات الجماهير.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has told Football FanCast that Tottenham’s priority before the transfer window closes is bringing in another centre-back and striker.

Nuno Espirito Santo has already added goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini and defender Cristian Romero from Atalanta to his squad, whilst promising young winger Bryan Gil joined from Sevilla, with Erik Lamela going the other way.

However, Tottenham’s struggles to offload the likes of Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko has affected their spending in the window.

Juan Foyth and Toby Alderweireld have both been moved on, but there appears a general lack of interest in Santo’s squad.

There’s also the ongoing Harry Kane saga, although following Carlos Vinicius’ return to Benfica, Spurs want to bring in another frontman regardless of whether the England captain leaves.

Meanwhile, according to Sky Sports, Tottenham are interested in signing Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma as they look to improve defensively before the window slams shut.

And Bridge told Football FanCast that one player at each end of the pitch is what the hierarchy want:

“My understanding is it’s another defender and a striker they’re focusing on. And I look at the date and the way it’s going for Spurs, and we mentioned the outgoings, they’re struggling.”

Ryan Campbell, the former Australian wicketkeeper who was an understudy to Adam Gilchrist, has signed up for the ICL and will be taking part in the unofficial Twenty20 league’s second season starting on October 10, officials confirmed.The ICL also confirmed four other signings, including Nazimuddin, the Bangladesh top-order batsman, Tahir Mughal, Shahid Yousuf and Khalid Mahmood from the Pakistan domestic circuit, and Kunal Lal, the Delhi left-arm fast bowler. Lal is also the son of Madan Lal, the former Indian medium-pacer who coaches the Delhi Jets team in the ICL. Kunal made his Delhi debut last season, during which he took 41 wickets in 13 first-class games.”Campbell is a valuable addition and will probably play for the Ahmedabad Rockets,” an ICL official said. “As for the other confirmed signings, the focus has been on youth. The three Pakistani players are upcoming talents and will add to the Lahore Badshahs team. Nazimuddin, who is a top-order batsman, will be part of our newly-unveiled Dhaka Warriors side.” Nadeem Khan, the former Pakistan Test player, has been named the assistant coach of the Badshahs.Nazimuddin came in to the Bangladesh national squad as an attacking opening batsman, and in only his second Twenty20 international, smashed 81 against Pakistan in Nairobi last September. Newcastle United are set to open talks with Everton over the possibility of signing James Rodriguez, journalist Ekrem Konur has claimed. 

The lowdown

Formerly of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, the 30-year-old moved to Goodison Park last summer on a free transfer. He enjoyed a strong debut campaign, contributing six Premier League goals and four assists to earn a squad-high WhoScored rating of 7.21.

However, the Colombian’s future is now in serious doubt following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, who brought him to Merseyside. Indeed, The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland reported that Rodriguez will be free to leave if the ‘right offer’ comes in.

He ostensibly has only one year left on his current deal, but Everton have the option to extend it for a further 12 months. As a result, he is valued at £25.2m by Transfermarkt, a shade less than what the Magpies paid for Joe Willock.

Taking to Twitter, Konur claimed that Newcastle ‘plan to hold talks’ over a deal for the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner.

They will apparently be doing so ‘at Steve Bruce’s request’, with the 60-year-old seemingly sensing an opportunity to bring the Colombian to Tyneside.

The verdict

Rodriguez would theoretically become Newcastle’s highest-paid player, but not by much. He pockets £90,000 per week at Everton, slightly more than Newcastle’s top earner Joelinton (£86,500).

Wages may not be a stumbling block, but it’s still very hard to see this move materialising. The 30-year-old could be open to the possibility of remaining in England, but his ambitions surely far exceed those of Newcastle, who have finished either 12th or 13th in each of the last three seasons.

Indeed, he would have joined Everton thinking that European football was on the horizon, and so it seems unlikely that he’d be willing to settle for a likely bottom-half finish on Tyneside.
