-A decisão (do Tribunal Federal Suíço) continua a mesma.

– Temos a decisão e o comunicado formal do Tribunal liberando o jogador. Estamos aguardando a comunicação da CBF ainda hoje. Se isso não chegar, o Flamengo vai decidir se escalará o jogador ou não. O entendimento do Flamengo e do Tribunal Suíço entendem que o jogador está liberado – afirmou.

Ankle surgery after Australia tour – Ishant

Ishant Sharma has said he will undergo surgery on his injured ankle after the conclusion of India’s tour of Australia tour early next year

Ishant Sharma has said he will undergo surgery on his injured ankle after the conclusion of India’s tour of Australia tour early next year. Ishant was ruled out of the limited-overs series against England after he sustained a ligament injury to his left ankle during the third Test at Edgbaston.”It [the tour of Australia] is a very important tour and nobody wants to miss it,” Ishant told the . “So I’ll get the surgery done only after the Australian tour. I am going to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where I’ll stay for a week or 10 days to undergo rehab and seek a proper schedule. At the moment, I’ve been told to do strengthening exercises.”At the time of the announcement of the team for the limited-overs series, a board release said Ishant had responded well to treatment on his ligament “but will need to undergo a course of intensive rehabilitation and training to prevent recurrence of the pain in his left ankle”. Ishant, however, said surgery was unavoidable. “I have a ligament tear in my left foot, and there is also a bone impingement in my left ankle. Surgery is the only way out. But if I undergo that now, my foot will be in plaster for about three months and the rehabilitation in all could take about 6-8 months.”India travel to Australia in December and will play four Tests, two Twenty20s and a tri-series also involving Sri Lanka, with the final game of that tournament slated for February 28. A rehab period of six to eight months means Ishant could miss the IPL, which is expected to be played in April-May 2012, as well as a yet unconfirmed Test and ODI series against Pakistan prior to that. India tour Sri Lanka for three Tests in July, and then host New Zealand for three Tests in August-September. This will be followed by the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka and the Champions League. If Ishant goes through with his plan, he is only likely to be back when India host England for four Tests in November-December.Ishant had a busy Test series in England from the time Zaheer Khan injured himself on the first day at Lord’s. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in their 0-4 defeat and said Zaheer’s absence had a bearing on the team’s performance.”You can’t say our morale went down,” Ishant said. “We were always in the game. But if a bowler with 10 years of experience isn’t there, it affects the performance. We had England on the ropes in the second innings at Lord’s, and if Zaheer was there and had taken a couple of wickets, the result could have been different.”Ishant dismissed Kevin Pietersen with a short ball in the second innings of the Lord’s Test, a wicket he will “cherish a lot”. He said bowling in English conditions had been a tremendous learning experience. “Bowling in different venues in different conditions teaches you a lot. In India, you know that after the initial burst, you have to wait for the third or fourth day to get something i.e. reverse swing. In England, if the sun is out and there is no moisture on the track, it gets really very flat and that makes it tough to bowl on.”

England seek opportunity in odd series

In barely a fortnight, the England team will be in India, preparing for their return series of five ODIs, but right at this moment, they are down at The Oval

The end of a long and successful season is drawing nigh for England, with India’s cricketers having finally made it home, hotly pursued by Leicestershire and Somerset, county cricket’s representatives at the Champions League. In barely a fortnight, the England team will also be in India, preparing for their return series of five ODIs, but right at this moment, they are down at The Oval, dodging autumnal showers and preparing for a pair of Twenty20 fixtures that serve only as a reminder of previous administrative folly. The Allen Stanford Memorial Series (as these matches are not officially known) has come about as a result of the collapse of the Stanford Super Series after a single ill-conceived incarnation in November 2008. The ECB had sold the rights to four years’ worth of such events, a quadrangular tournament at home and a “20/20 for 20″ cash bonanza in Antigua, and then promptly spent all the broadcasting cash they had received from Sky. The upshot has been this fudged bid to fulfil their contractual obligations, an unsatisfactory compromise involving two skeleton international teams, one of which will be led by England’s sixth captain of the calendar year, Graeme Swann.Nevertheless there is, from England’s point of view, an undoubted value to the exercise that is about to take place. In exactly 12 months’ time the squad will be in Sri Lanka launching the defence of their World Twenty20 crown, with India once again lined up as their principal opponent in the group stages. Given how infrequently the format is played at international level, any opportunity to practise competitively between now and then has to be welcomed by the reigning champions.England have a further fixture against India in Kolkata looming on October 29, and then probably no more than four bilateral matches scheduled home and away ahead of the squad selection for the 2012 tournament. Therefore, this double-header could make or break the claims of more than just a handful of contenders, both those playing and those missing out.Although the regular Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad is missing out through injury, the balance of England’s squad is still geared towards the not-so-distant future. The telling decision not to hand the captaincy to the one-day leader, Alastair Cook, confirms the impression that England intend to make the best of a bad situation, and use these fixtures to gauge their Twenty20 development.Alex Hales and Craig Kieswetter can be expected to open in both fixtures with a licence to clear the ropes, closely followed by a middle order that is likely to include three players – Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes – who have not yet celebrated their 22nd birthdays. Even in this new-look outfit, however, the decision to bring Surrey’s Stuart Meaker into the squad as a net bowler provides a reminder that pressure for places is paramount.”Any opportunity I can get to pull an England shirt on, I’m going to grab with both hands, regardless of what time of year it is,” said Jade Dernbach, one of the players who, at this stage, would appear certain of taking part in the title defence. “With the World Twenty20 coming up next year, any games we can get will be vitally important. There are only five or six games before then, so these two games form quite an integral part of the plans and processes for that tournament.”Dernbach’s maiden season of international cricket has been eventful, to say the least. He was called up to the World Cup squad in Sri Lanka back in March, having impressed the selectors on the England Lions tour of the Caribbean. Though he didn’t play in what turned out to be England’s final match of that competition, a ten-wicket elimination in the quarter-finals, he has since featured 10 of their 11 ODIs this summer, as well as two Twenty20s against Sri Lanka at Bristol and India at Old Trafford, where he was named Man of the Match following a matchwinning spell of 4 for 22.”I set myself some goals at the start of the year, but did I know all of this was going to happen? Probably not,” said Dernbach. “You take it as it comes and I’m overjoyed to have played so much cricket for England this summer.”A similar story applies for West Indies, although in their case, the new-look nature of their squad is more through necessity than choice. Many of their key players are absent either through contractual disputes, in the case of Chris Gayle, and or through the demands of the Champions League, in which Kieron Pollard is playing for Mumbai Indians, and in which Trinidad and Tobago have first dibs on several players who might otherwise be featuring here – including Darren Bravo, Ravi Rampaul and Adrian Barath.Either way, Ottis Gibson, West Indies’ coach, was seeking to put the matches in a positive light. “We don’t have a lot of games leading up to the World Cup, so these two come along at a very good time for us,” he said. “We’ve got a newish looking squad, but it gives our guys a good chance to see where they are in terms of international cricket. England are still the world champions don’t forget, so we are taking these games very seriously in our build-up.”England start the series as favourites, partly because of their familiarity with the conditions, but also because of the deep well of confidence that the chosen players have inherited in the course of the summer. As Dernbach explained, the knowledge of what the team has achieved in all formats this summer couldn’t help but rub off on newcomers to the squad – not least Bairstow, who produced a matchwinning 41 not out from 21 balls on debut in Cardiff last week.”I think in one-day cricket you want to be able to go and express yourself and what’s made you successful is what you want to continue to do,” said Dernbach. “People will back you 100% in the decisions you make, and that’s what happened for Jonny. For him to come in and look so at home was an outstanding achievement. That’s a testament to the feeling we have got in the dressing room. We made him feel very welcome, he felt at home, and he was able to produce his best cricket which is what we want.”

Trescothick leads fightback after Hales 184

Marcus Trescothick led Somerset’s fightback after Alex Hales helped Nottinghamshire to a 106-run lead on first innings

Say what you like about Stuart Broad, but rarely does he bowl a spell in which nothing happens. This was a day on which Alex Hales extended his second-day century to a magnificent 184 and Andre Adams won a hugely entertaining duel with combustible fast bowler Steve Kirby with by swelling his tally of sixes to the season to 27 as Nottinghamshire carved out an unlikely 106-run lead. But Broad somehow made himself the talking point by bowling two spells of such contrast that he could have been Steve Harmison wearing a blond wig. The first was absolutely dreadful, with both line and length all over the place. From 24 balls bowled, he conceded 30 runs, the bulk of them to a properly grateful Marcus Trescothick, who helped himself to four boundaries from the first two overs, all pinged away effortlessly backward of square on the off-side. Chris Read, who had supportively talked up Broad’s bowling at stumps on Tuesday, sent his man into the outfield to reflect. As Broad contemplated the elusiveness of his form, Trescothick went about his business in his customary, imperious style and Nottinghamshire’s lead began to vanish at an alarming rate. Trescothick reached 50 for the ninth time this season, having turned four of the previous eight into hundreds. Read took a brilliant leg-side catch to dismiss Arul Suppiah, fending off a lifting ball from Andre Adams that swung into his body, but otherwise Notts seemed powerless to halt the traffic in runs. The lead was all but wiped out when Broad came back after tea. Disgruntled Nottinghamshire fans contemplated more carnage. Yet what happened? Quite the opposite – eight overs bowled, this time with pace, bounce and, crucially, full control of length and direction. And, for more than good measure, the wicket that mattered, too – of Trescothick on 86 – from a ball that climbed unplayably and unavoidably on the former England opener, brushing glove or bat handle on its way into Read’s reliable grasp. This was brilliant bowling and how Broad celebrated, having stepped into the spotlight again when really it belonged to others, most notably Hales.Although the pitch looked much less green than it had at the start of the match, batting on the third morning had been scarcely more comfortable than the first two, amply illustrated when Alex Hales, 130 overnight, took 45 minutes to add the seven runs he needed to pass his previous highest score, the 136 he made against Hampshire here last season.Nonetheless, 117 were added in the morning session. Chris Read, a batsman seldom willingly pinned down, pulled Adam Dibble for six over mid-wicket before a full, straight ball from Peter Trego trapped him in the crease, denying him a half-century in a stand of 106 with Hales. Read’s departure merely ushered in Paul Franks, who has few peers among specialist number eights, as he demonstrated in a 32-ball 28 before a tickle to Craig Kieswetter off Murali Kartik stopped him in his tracks. It was all hugely frustrating to Steve Kirby and Charl Willoughby, who had bowled well with the second new ball without an ounce of luck. Kirby, not for the first time, donned his pantomime villain’s demeanour after lunch. The crowd here enjoy a bit of banter and played their part only too willingly as Kirby stomped and scowled, guffawing loudly at his spurious appeal for a catch when Hales played a ball to cover that so plainly did not not carry than even James Hildreth, the fielder, showed no interest.Had he been Dominic Cork, the next few minutes would have been spiced by several return volleys, but the interaction instead seemed to tickle Kirby’s sense of humour. Shortly afterwards, bowling to Andre Adams, he gripped the ball as if he were about to propel it like a javelin, shaking it in his right hand as he ran in, and could only laugh at himself as the umpires ticked him off.As it happens, though, it was Adams who had the last laugh, hooking the next ball for six, with a couple more maximums in Kirby’s next over, which went for 21. Adams, whose batting methodology rarely offers any surprises, has hit 27 sixes in the Championship this season, representing 41.2 per cent of his total runs scored. The next highest tally is Graham Napier’s 16.Meanwhile, Willoughby earned some belated reward after Broad had chipped in a cameo 21, dismissing the England bowler when Kieswetter, atoning for a missed stumping when Hales was on 180, produced an astonishing piece of levitation and a stunning catch.Hales, whose century had been only his second, must have had visions of making it a double but as Willoughby conjured up another delivery that lifted and moved away off a pitch still offering good bounce and carry, Hales nibbled and was caught behind. The left-armer claimed his third success, placing eight fielders on the boundary for Adams, who had hit 33 off 14 balls, only to surprise him with a leg-stump Yorker.Trescothick’s departure raised expectations for Nottinghamshire but in truth the requirement was to have Somerset four or five down before the lead was overturned and the script has not gone to plan.Nick Compton is unbeaten on 46, having survived a couple more overs from Broad at the close, and Somerset are 91 in front, making a draw the likeliest outcome.

'Afridi immature, has poor discipline' – Waqar

Waqar Younis, the Pakistan coach, has hit out at former captain Shahid Afridi in his tour report of Pakistan’s series in the Caribbean

ESPNcricinfo staff07-Jun-2011

Serious differences•AFP

Waqar Younis, the Pakistan coach, has hit out at former captain Shahid Afridi in his tour report of Pakistan’s series in the Caribbean, saying, “as a captain he is very immature, has poor discipline, lacks a gameplan and is unwilling to listen to others’ opinions or advice.” The report, whose excerpts have been published in , confirms the existence of a rift between captain and coach during the end of the tour, with Waqar admitting that Afridi walked out of a meeting over differences relating to selection. The acrimonious relationship was also acknowledged by team manager Intikhab Alam in his tour report, in which he – while saying Waqar had at times been “arrogant” – described Afridi as a “highly hyper-active personality who lacks [the] temperament to listen to other people’s point of views or look for solutions for the betterment of the team.”Afridi was removed as ODI captain after the tour and reacted by retiring “conditionally” from international cricket due to the “humiliation” inflicted by the PCB. His criticism of the board led to the suspension of his central contract and revocation of NOCs permitting him to play cricket overseas. The matter now rests before a disciplinary committee, which is scheduled to meet Afridi – who faces charges of violating the board’s code of conduct – on June 8.”Besides myself, the rest of the coaching staff has worked very hard with him to improve his abilities as a long-term and successful captain but sometimes his volatile and immature nature have proved detrimental and led to unfortunate outcomes including game losses,” Waqar said.Pakistan won the ODI series 3-2 but lost the final two games, both dead rubbers. The tour report reveals there was considerable disagreement between Waqar and Afridi over the team composition for those two matches. Before the fourth and fifth ODIs, Waqar said, Afridi “came into the meetings with a decisive mindset and was refusing to discuss playing XI options. I, as a part of the touring selection committee, tried to discuss different options for the team but he behaved very inappropriately and walked out of the meeting.”His attitude and unwillingness to sort out matters led to a very uncomfortable dressing-room environment which affected the players’ performance, resulting in the last two losses of the ODI series.”Alam, in his report, said there was also a disagreement over Afridi’s decision to suddenly promote himself up the order in one of those two games, as that hadn’t initially been part of the team strategy. “At one stage we were 200 for two in forty overs. All of a sudden Afridi promoted himself and as soon as he went in, the very next over he took the Powerplay and got himself out. The entire batting order was reshuffled and as a result, we could only manage 40-odd runs after that.”After losing the match Waqar was furious why he was not consulted over change in order. Afridi in return told Waqar, ‘I am not having a good time as far as my batting is concerned, but how many times you have taken me to the nets and worked with me or talked to me about my batting’. After heated arguments, once again Afridi left the room.”Alam also claimed he told Afridi not to speak to the press about his differences with Waqar, but inform the PCB chairman if he had complaints. But, according to Alam, it wasn’t just Afridi whose behaviour had been a problem. “I have also been observing Waqar and feel that he is at times little harsh and arrogant which creates some problems.”
