Tanvir, who is already in South Africa playing for the Lions franchise in the domestic Twenty20 competition, will have to juggle his participation in that event with any possible recall to the Pakistan squad.Tanvir met with the Pakistan management during the third ODI at the Wanderers on Sunday. Misbah-ul-Haq said the team had been in discussions with Tanvir and were considering using him as back-up at the post match press conference.The Lions coach Geoffrey Toyana confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that Tanvir had been in touch with Pakistan but said he will turn out for the franchise on March 19 in Centurion, where they play the Titans. Should the Lions win that match, they will have taken a massive step towards qualifying for the final.Tanvir will then fly to Durban where Pakistan play the fourth ODI on March 21. If the Lions need Tanvir, he will have to go straight to East London to play for the them again on March 22. However if he is not needed, the Lions will rest him and he can continue to be part of the Pakistan camp until the final one-day match in Benoni on Sunday, before returning to the Lions for the knockout stages.Irfan, the seven-foot tall bowler, is struggling with a stomach bug. He had to leave the field during the Wanderers match and was treated off field. He also picked up a hamstring strain on Friday night in Centurion although Misbah clarified that “there is nothing wrong with his hamstring.” Irfan returned to bat later in the match. Gul, who has been out of form, was left out of the third match with a knee injury.Tanvir has played an important part in the Lions campaign. He is the joint second-leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 10 scalps at 16.40.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has called the results of the South Africa series a disappointment and accepted that his team needed significant improvements. He was speaking after the Pakistan side returned home from a two-month tour of South Africa. Pakistan lost the ODI series by 3-2 and Test series by 3-0, though the team managed to win the two-match Twenty20 series 1-0, after the first match was washed out.The biggest concern for Pakistan has been the batting as no batsman proved consistent enough. The team reached South Africa 10 days ahead of the first Test to get used to the conditions but struggled to find their feet. They lost the first Test by 211 runs, the second by four wickets and the third by an innings and 18 runs with batting regularly failing against a top-quality South Africa attack. In ODIs, they performed a bit better but remained inconsistent with Misbah being the top scorer for Pakistan, collecting 227 runs at 56.75.”The tour was disappointing,” Misbah said, on arriving at the Lahore airport. “We struggled throughout the Test series and it’s an alarming situation, we need to improve a lot in various aspects. We couldn’t do much in the Test series but recovered well and were better in the one-dayers. We played irresponsible shots and we need to address our batting problems.”Several of Pakistan’s key players couldn’t deliver. Mohammad Hafeez was clueless against Dale Steyn, Shahid Afridi was erratic, Younis Khan failed in the limited-overs matches and Umar Gul was below his best. Hafeez managed to score 43 in six Test innings, and 118 in five ODIs, Younis scored 184 in the Tests and 116 in ODIs while Afridi, who was picked as a legspinner failed to take a wicket, though he clubbed 126 runs in the ODIs.Misbah, however, refused to single out any particular player and left it to the concerned authorities to pass judgement on the performances ahead of the Champions Trophy. “Everyone has seen who did what (in South Africa) but it’s the board and the selectors who will gauge the performances of the players and they will look into the future.”Responding to a question, Misbah brushed aside any off-the-field clash that affected the team in South Africa. “There was nothing like that (in-rift) and it isn’t a reason for the performance. We should accept that they were the better side and played better than us and at the end of the day, they won.”

تحدث حسام البدري، مدرب الأهلي ومنتخب مصر الأسبق، والصفاقسي التونسي الحالي، عن مواجهة المارد الأحمر أمام الترجي المقبلة، في نصف نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

ويلتقي الأهلي مع الترجي في الثامنة مساء اليوم الجمعة بتوقيت تونس، العاشرة بتوقيت القاهرة، على الملعب الأولمبي حمادي العقربي برادس، في ذهاب الدور نصف النهائي للمسابقة القارية.

وقال البدري في تصريحات تليفزيونية عبر قناة “إي تي سي”: “كل الكلام في تونس حاليًا على مواجهة الترجي أمام الأهلي، وأتمنى فوز الفريق الأحمر وتحقيق نتيجة إيجابية تساعده في الوصول للنهائي قبل لقاء الإياب في القاهرة”.

وأردف: “مواجهة الترجي والأهلي صعبة للغاية والفريقان لديهما خبرات كبيرة في إفريقيا، لكن قوام الأحمر وحالة الاستقرار تمنحه الأفضلية في لقاء الغد، والمباراة عبارة عن شوطين الأول في تونس والثاني في القاهرة، وبالتأكيد الجهاز الفني للمارد الأحمر يعلم حالة منافسه جيدًا ولكن كل مباراة لها ظروفها رغم تعثر الترجي مؤخرا في الدوري التونسي ومعاناته من بعض الغيابات”.

واستطرد: “الأهلي حصد البطولة في السنوات الأخيرة، كما وصل للنهائي ويمتلك لاعبين لديهم خبرات كبيرة وهو ما يمنحهم فرصة كبيرة من أجل الفوز، وبالتأكيد الجماهير المنافسة للترجي تتمنى صعود الأهلي للنهائي وهذه هي كرة القدم، لكن في النهاية الروح الرياضية هي التي تسود بين جميع الفرق”.

وأضاف: “مواجهة الأهلي والترجي ستكون صعبة وأعتقد أن الفريق التونسي سيظهر بشكل مغاير عما ظهر به في لقاءات الدوري مؤخرًا وسيعمل على تحقيق أفضل نتيجة وأتمنى أن يتعامل الأهلي بشكل جيد وهناك بعض التفاصيل الصغيرة هي التي سوف تحسم المباراة”.

وتطرق للحديث: “الترجي يعاني من بعض الظروف الصعبة ولو تم الضغط عليه مبكرا من جانب لاعبي الأهلي، سيؤدي إلى توتر لاعبيه بشكل واضح، كما أن عدم حضور الجماهير أمر سلبي بالنسبة لنبيل معلول ورفاقه بكل تأكيد”.

وتابع: “من عوامل قوة الترجي الكرات الثابتة والاختراق من على الأطراف، كما يضم لاعب مميز وهو محمد علي بن رمضان الذي يعتبر من أبرز اللاعبين وله دور كبير في الاختراق من العمق وبالتأكيد كولر قادر على التعامل مع المنافس جيدًا”.

وواصل: “هناك لاعبون جيدون في الترجي مثل أنيس البدري وبن حمودة وبن رمضان، لكن هناك نواقص أخرى في الترجي، وأحذر لاعبي الأهلي من الكرات الثابتة، خصوصًا أن الفريق التونسي يمتلك لاعبين طوال القامة قادرين على التعامل بشكل جيد مع هذه الألعاب”.

وأوضح: “لا أعرف الحالة البدنية للاعبي الأهلي في الفترة الأخيرة، لكن محمد عبدالمنعم وياسر إبراهيم ومحمود متولي لديهم خبرات كبيرة في خط الدفاع، وفي الغالب سيعتمد كولر على 3 لاعبين في الوسط وطريقة اللعب في النهاية سيحددها المدير الفني”.

واختتم: “التوقع في كرة القدم صعب وكل مباراة يكون لها ظروفها الخاصة، لكن أتمنى فوز الأهلي بكل تأكيد وصعوده لنهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا”.

The England national selector, Geoff Miller, has admitted there are concerns over the fitness of Stuart Broad, England’s Twenty20 captain, and that a time may come when he cannot be part of the side in all three formats of the game.Broad, who flew home early from the Test series in India with a heel problem, is due to link up with the England squad ahead of the final two one-day internationals, but is considered unlikely to play either of those matches. A more realistic target for his return is the Twenty20 series in New Zealand, which starts on February 9.That, however, is admittance that Broad’s recovery from the heel problem that plagued him during the Test series in India has not gone as smoothly as hoped. Broad is visiting a kit specialist in Germany this week to be fitted with customised boots aimed to alleviate the problem on his left heel, which takes the brunt of the force during his delivery stride.”The concern is that there have been two or three niggles that have affected his form and availability,” Miller told reporters in India. “Anybody with an injury is a concern to us and we’ve got to manage workloads as best as we can, that’s why we’re continually looking at other players. We will look at it and make sure he’s used in the best possible way for English cricket. He knows that.”The rotation of players during a packed international schedule is now a major talking point, particularly in Australia, and England are currently using such a system during the one-day series in India, with James Anderson and Jonathan Trott also rested. It is likely, too, that certain key players will be given periods off during the upcoming home-and-away Test series against New Zealand.However, ruling a player out of a format completely, unless that is a decision taken by the player concerned, is a drastic option and one that Miller hoped Broad will not have to contemplate.”At this moment of time we’re not thinking about taking him out of a format because he’s got that sort of quality, but if we reached the stage where his body wasn’t responding to all kinds of cricket then we’re open to that.”Although Broad finished 2012 as the fourth-highest Test wicket-taker among quick bowlers, with 40 wickets at 31.70, his form tailed off in the second half of the year against South Africa and India. He had earlier been rested from the one-day series against South Africa, led England at the World Twenty20 before picking up his heel injury during the warm-up matches in India. The problem then reoccurred towards the end of the tour.Broad’s injury problems began in Australia during the 2010-11 Ashes, when a strained stomach muscle sustained in Adelaide forced him home early. He then suffered a rib injury during the World Cup, which again ended his participation early, and then picked up a shoulder injury late in the 2011 home season.”What we have to do is react to the injury that he has at any one time,” Miller said. “He felt, and we felt, that he had to look after his body so he went away and worked really hard at that. Since then there have been a few niggling injuries, but anybody can get them.”

Ross Taylor, the former New Zealand captain, has openly disputed the coach Mike Hesson’s depiction of his exit from the leadership of the national side.Hesson has maintained that in a meeting ahead of the recently completed Test series in Sri Lanka he informed Taylor that he should step aside as captain of the ODI and Twenty20 sides while retaining the Test captaincy.However Taylor, who is missing the forthcoming South Africa tour in order to take a break from the game after the job was handed to Brendon McCullum, said that Hesson’s version of events does not match his own recollection of what took place.”He said I wasn’t a good enough leader, that this team needs a strong leader and that I wasn’t a strong leader. If I wasn’t a strong leader why would he give me the Test captaincy?” Taylor told .”He said ‘Ross, I am going to recommend to [NZC director of cricket] John Buchanan that we have a new captain for South Africa’. There was nothing in there about anything to do with a split captaincy.”Taylor has maintained the first he heard about the possibility of his retaining the Test captaincy was following the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series, which was tied 1-1 after New Zealand won the final Test.
