Tottenham Hotspur need a manager. If that was not already clear, then their showing on Sunday made it abundantly so.

Cristian Stellini could not have looked more out of his depth than when he deployed Antonio Conte's team in a starting back four, despite both full backs being natural wing backs, and the centre backs having seldom played in such a system.

It took him just 23 minutes to revert back to their natural formation, but by that point, five goals had already sailed past Hugo Lloris. Having inherited Graham Potter's high-flying Brighton and Hove Albion outfit, the Italian has managed to take them to new heights as they remain firmly in the European picture.

However, what is most impressive is that the 43-year-old has the Seagulls playing stunning football with an unflinching backline that has conceded just 37 goals. The gulf in defensive quality is vast between them and Spurs, although on paper their players are no better.

This is a figure that only the top three and Chelsea can better. For comparison, even with a squad far greater than any other in Ligue 1, during his last season at Paris Saint-Germain his side conceded 36 goals; not too dissimilar from Brighton's current season.

Employing a fluid 4-2-3-1 shape, it is certain that Levy would have to allow the new man time to gut the squad, who proved on Sunday that four at the back was not within their skillset. However, to collapse in such a fashion was more down to a mentality issue than any tactical shift.

This is a squad full of spineless and toothless duds, who De Zerbi must cleanse should he continue his success at a new club.

A former player of his, Andrea Orlandi, had detailed just how impressive the coach could be if handed time and resources:

"De Zerbi is kind of a football genius in Italy. He was a bit of a rebel as a footballer. An attacking midfielder, a quality player, never really fulfilled his potential and then as a coach he is a student of the game.

A key point was that the Spaniard also described him as "Guardiola-esque" in his play style, with the Manchester City coach being one transformative manager Levy would love to have in his dugout.

As a more than capable alternative, De Zerbi can solve their biggest issue at the back by translating his tried-and-tested philosophy onto a squad which he would seek to overhaul this summer.

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has lost his form at an awkward time for the Whites due to their relegation worries, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Meslier and Leeds United have been on the receiving end of some heavy scorelines recently, as the Frenchman has picked the ball out of the net 18 times in his last five Premier League matches, as per Transfermarkt.

The Whites have recently made the decision to sack manager Javi Gracia following this poor run in form and have replaced him with relegation firefighter Sam Allardyce, who will take charge of their last four games of the season, as per Sky News.

In Leeds United's 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend, Meslier was criticised by pundit Jon Newsome for his error leading up to Jefferson Lerma's goal at the Vitality Stadium, as per BBC Radio Leeds transcribed by Leeds Live, as he stated: “That’s awful, dare I say, from the keeper, Meslier, that’s really, really poor.”

Capology understand Meslier earns around £30,000 per week at Elland Road on a contract that runs until the summer of 2026.

It looks like it could be an extremely busy summer at Villa Park ahead of Unai Emery’s first full season in charge, with the manager currently leading a late push to qualify for European football in the Premier League.

Plans for the summer are already being put in place, though, with Barcelona director Mateu Alemany reportedly reaching a ‘full agreement’ to move to the Midlands this summer.

He looks set to work closely with Emery when it comes to transfer targets, and it appears as if they have identified Asensio as one of their first possible signings together, with the manager on board over a swoop for the Madrid man.

Reliable Spanish outlet Marca shared an update on Asensio, who is out of contract at the Bernabeu at the end of the season. They said that Alemany and Emery are going to launch an Aston Villa move for the player through his representative, Jorge Mendes.

Asensio would like to renew his Real Madrid contract, however, Villa may well submit an offer for the left-footed winger that could be worth around €8m-a-year (£6.9m), working out at £132,000-a-week and double his Madrid salary.

Asensio, described as "sensational" for the impact he's made from the bench back in October, was valued at a whopping €90m by Transfermarkt back in 2018 and is now valued at €25m, so you can see why Alemany and Emery could launch an eye-catching contract offer with no transfer fee required.

The 27-year-old can play on either wing or in an attacking midfield role, so would offer plenty of versatility in the final third. A three-time Champions League winner, the Spaniard has made 281 appearances for Madrid, contributing to 92 goals.

He has plenty of experience in the Champions League, a competition Villa would love to be playing in further down the line under Emery, while Asensio also has 35 caps to his name at international level for Spain.

Therefore, for free, he could prove to be a smart signing by Villa this summer as they look to go to the next level, and it looks as if Alemany and Emery are working on a move.

Alex Blake let out a shout of triumph when hit the penultimate ball of the match for six to finish on a superb 66 not out and guide Kent to a thrilling one-wicket victory against Surrey at Beckenham in the Royal London One-Day Cup.Two runs were needed with two balls to go when James Tredwell ran himself out in a doomed attempt to pinch a single to get Blake back on strike, but the 26-year-old left-hander smashed a shortish ball from Tom Curran high over the extra cover boundary to take Kent past Surrey’s 50-over total of 255 for 8.Blake said: “I sort of knew where Tom Curran was going to bowl it, given the field that had been set, so I just set myself for the shot. With three needed from the last over, it got a bit tight when we only got a single early on in the over and then Tredders was run out, but I knew what I had to do and I middled it.”I’m a local boy here so although my club ground is in another part of Beckenham I always look forward to playing on this ground and I do enjoy it here. It’s also nice to have a lot of friends watching whenever we play at Beckenham and to show them what I can do.”Blake also revealed that he finished the match using one of team-mate Darren Stevens’s bats after feeling something wrong with his own when swinging Stuart Meaker for a four in the 41st over. “It didn’t feel right so I swapped it initially for one of Joe Denly’s bats and then, soon after that, one of Darren’s. Bell-Drummond, diving forward, held a fine catch and Roy departed for a 40-ball 32.Sangakkara, Rory Burns and Ansari were further Surrey batsmen to walk off shaking their heads in frustration after picking out fielders as they attempted to push on.Tredwell leapt at mid off to claw down a chipped drive by Sangakkara off Cowdrey’s left-arm spin, leaving Surrey 153 for 4 in the 30th over, Burns swung a short ball from Stevens to deep mid-wicket and Ansari was caught at long on for 30 in the 46th over.Gary Wilson was undone on 11 by a fierce lifter from Coles, which ballooned up off his glove and shoulder into the vacant slip area for keeper Billings to make good ground to his right and pull off an excellent low diving catch.Sam Curran played some nice strokes in his 22 before slicing an attempted drive at the returning Tredwell to point and Tom Curran had his leg stump clipped by Griffiths as he swung violently. A 4,000-strong crowd initially thought the batsman had inside-edged to the boundary at first, before suddenly realising Curran was walking off.Mathew Pillans and Batty did their best in the closing overs to get Surrey’s total up to something defendable but Coles and Griffiths were impressive at the death and, in the end, it was not quite enough to deny Kent.
